In 1973, Valerie graduated from Texas Tech University (Magna cum laude) in Lubbock, TX with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a specialization in Math. From 1973-1976, she taught sixth grade Mathematics to students with all ranges of aptitudes from Basics to Honors to Accelerated at Bussey Middle School in Garland, TX. She also developed a workbook manual for the Basic learners to allow them to work at their own pace and develop self-confidence.
From 1976-1986, she took a position as an Advertising Sales Representative with the Publications department of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. This included the Dallas Business Magazine, Dallas Housing Guide, Dallas Tourist Guide, Dallas Industrial Buildings Guide, and Dallas Office Buildings Guide. Valerie became the top producing sales person at her time of departure to join with her husband, Bob Kirkpatrick to begin operations as The Kirkpatrick Group, Inc.
In 1986, Valerie and her husband established The Kirkpatrick Group, Inc in Richardson, TX. She currently presides as Vice President and Co-Owner of the company which manufactures Wire Rope Lubrication Systems and Wire Rope Lubricants with plants in Houston, Tulsa and Warehousing operations in Plano, TX.
From 1988-1997, Valerie was a Realtor with Merrill Lynch Realty, Fenwick Realtors, and RE/Max of Plano. While at RE/Max she became the Children’s Miracle Network liaison helping to raise funds from Realtor’s commissions for donations to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. In the Mid-90’s, Valerie was a Plano ISD Volunteer at Forman Elementary School.
In 1997, Valerie along with Jim and Cheryl Wells established Covenant Realty Corporation. As teachers, former and present, their experiences in education became the foundation as they continue to be educators and trusted advisors in real estate. Valerie started with the philosophy that if she could motivate kids to want to learn how to succeed in math, she could certainly take that same “can do” attitude and apply to her many clients that she has helped over the years.
